  • 20 Die As Plateau sects Clash Again
  • About 20 people are feared to have been killed and several others injured on Wednesday in separate sectarian crises in two local government areas in Plateau State.

While 18 people died at Wadatan Garga in Wase LGA and two at Du in Jos South LGA in similar circumstances, about 20 houses were razed at Dompar and Kurmin Dashe communities in the area.

The fights reportedly began in Wase council area, when the corpse of a man said to be Taroh by tribe, believed to have been killed by the Fulani, was found.

A reprisal attack on some Fulani men, came on the heels of this as the men were returning from a market at Wadatan Garga, leaving nine of them dead.

Also one person was left dead and another wounded after an attack on the residence of a Fulani man in Du District of Jos South Local Government Area. This provoked a reprisal as some natives returning from a nearby village were ambushed and one of them was killed while others were injured.

The killings were confirmed by the Chairman of Transition Committee of Wase Local Government Area, Alhaji Zakari Mohammed, who said soldiers have been drafted to the area to restore peace and prevent an escalation of the problem.
