  • Film Corporation plans indigenous cartoon films for children
  • Jos – The Nigeria Film Corporation has concluded arrangements to start producing indigenous cartoon films for children to reduce over-dependent on foreign films.
Dr Danjuma Dadu, Managing Director of the
corporation, told the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) on Wednesday in Jos that the films would
be tailored to promote Nigerian culture and
    traditions.
He said that the cartoons, which would be in the
three major languages of Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, would help mobilise the nation's future
    leaders, to appreciate our heritage.
"Our children are completely hooked to foreign
culture and we need to do something very fast to
save them from forgetting our culture.
"Nigerians must show-case their rich culture and traditions for the young generation to appreciate them," he said.
Dadu, who expressed concern over the
production of substandard films in the country,
noted that some film makers cheated Nigerians
by producing and selling poor quality films.
"We in the corporation will not accept this
exploitation and will soon start screening all
    films before they are marketed.
"Only films that meet the standards set by the
corporation will be allowed in the market.
"It will no longer be business as usual; we will put our control mechanism in place in the industry," he warned Dadu said the sector had the capacity to generate revenue and jobs for many, and therefore urged operators in the sector, to cooperate with the corporation in its at repositioning the industry for the benefit of all.
