  • EFCC jails man 14 years for fraud

    justice Adebisi Akinlade of a Lagos State High Court, sitting in Igbosere, has sentenced Abiodun Ibrahim Atobatele to fourteen years imprisonment, for obtaining the sum of N2.7 Million( Two Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Naira only) by false pretense.
    Specifically, Atobatele  collected the total sum of N2.7million fraudulently from one Chief Gabriel O. Onipede, in the guise of helping him get a 2003 model of  Lexus Sport Utility Car, but failed to deliver on the promise. When he was arrested by the EFCC, he confessed that he used the money to pay his house rent and  cater for his wife’s spiritual problems
    He was arraigned by the  EFCC, on a two-count charge, bordering on obtaining money by false pretence,  contrary to section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006.
    Justice Akinlade found him guilty on the two counts  and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment on each count. The sentence is to run concurrently, from the day of his conviction.
    The Judge also directed that he should hand over his landed property at Ifon, Osun State, to EFCC as restitution.
