  • Two Nigerians And A Brazilian Sentenced By Dubai Court On Drugs Smuggling Charges
  • Despite the death sentence and jail terms that comes with drug trafficking, Nigerians are still striving hard to make money from illicit trade. .

    Three passengers have received jail sentences of 10 years each on charges of smuggling and possession of around 5kg of cocaine which was found in their luggage as they transited through Dubai while travelling to Nigeria.

    Law enforcement officers caught the trio, M.J., 45, a Brazilian, and two Nigerians, R.O., 31, and O.K., 41, as they attempted to sneak through the narcotics concealed in several bags at Dubai International Airport’s transit section in November.


     Presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat at the Dubai Court of First Instance, while convicting the trio, also fined each of them Dh50,000.

    “The seized drugs will be confiscated and the accused will be deported following the completion of their punishments,” said the judge in courtroom three. The trio denied smuggling the narcotics.

    The ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
