The Assistant
Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Mr. Bala Hassan, has advised
Lagosians against any lifestyle capable of encouraging crime in the society.
Hassan said
Nigerians must continue to be vigilant and watchful not to allow themselves to
be victims of crime through careless attitude.
He gave the
advice on Thursday in Lagos, while speaking at the third biennial conference on
community policing, organised by the Lagos state Command of the Police
Community Relations Committee.
Hassan said
those that engaged in crime were encouraged to do so because of the
ostentatious lifestyles of people around them.
Hassan while
speaking on the theme, ‘PCRC and criminal opportunity,’ said, “As Christmas is
fast approaching, we must live a moderate life so that we do not give criminals
the opportunity to operate.
“Anything
that will make us victims of crime should also be avoided. It is people that
give criminals the opportunity to commit crimes and we must ever be vigilant.
“When you go
to the bank to withdraw money and you keep the money in your car where the
criminal will see it and remove it, are you not the one giving opportunity to
the criminal to commit crime?”
Hassan also
used the occasion to assure residents of the zone of the police’s preparedness
at ensuring a crime-free Yuletide.
