A renewed cult war on Sunday claimed the lives of two persons with 10
vehicles destroyed as rival cult groups in Warri, Delta State, fought.
It was gathered that the clash of the two rival cult groups (Eiye and
Ake confraternities) reared its ugly head during night fall on the
faithful Sunday, leaving scores of persons allegedly wounded and stores
looted.
It was further learnt that the cultists were armed with dangerous weapons including guns, cutlasses, battle axes and iron rods as they allegedly harassed unsuspecting passersby including residents of Ejeba Quarters in Warri where the major fracas took place.
Investigation revealed that what earlier looked like a child’s play later generated into full – scale war that eventually caught everybody in Ejeba quarters Warri napping as people scampered for safety but the police public relations officer in the state, Mrs Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident said “the police arrested six persons who upon interrogation confessed to be being members of Eiye confraternity.”
