A rare phenomenon called “solar pillar” was spotted in China’s northern
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Wednesday. The phenomenon can only
occur at sunrise or sunset in very low temperatures, when the reflection
of the sunlight on ice crystals appears to be vertical.
