Jai Dara Latto was showered in adoration and applause when she was crowned Miss Transgender UK in London last September. But the title was short lived after an organiser accused Latto of being a ‘drag queen’.

Director Rachael Bailey said Latto was ‘not transgender enough’ after she was sent a picture of the 22-year-old wearing boxers.
Latto, from Peeblesshire, Scotland, was subsequently stripped of her title after six months because she was not living as a full-time woman.

Now she has been forced to hand over her crown to the competition’s runner-up, Daisy Bell, 23.
The pictures, which also showed Latto working out at the gym in a T-shirt and shorts, were taken as part of a BBC documentary, Miss Transgender.
Daisy Bell has now been crowned Miss Transgender UK. See Centre Press story CPTRANS; The Scottish winner of a national transgender beauty pageant has had her title stripped from her as she is "not transgender enough". Jai Dara Latto, from Walkerburn in Peeblesshire, was named Miss Transgender UK in a ceremony in London in September last year. But now, Rachael Bailey, who runs the pageant, has removed Jai's title and is set to crown another beauty queen, Daisy Bell, the winner after seeing video footage she claims proves Ms Latto is not living as a woman full time. Jai, however, insists she is transgender and says she has already begun hormone treatment to become biologically female.
In response to the claims, Latto said ‘being transgender is not some exclusive club’.
Although Latto has insisted she is a woman, Rachel said the documentary showed her living as a gay male.

The main prize sparked controversy at the time because it awarded £10,000 worth of surgery in India.
But Latto has now returned the prize and instead will be having the reassignment treatment in Scotland.
