Yesterday,
the 24th of June 2016 saw the massacre of several individuals in
Elepete community in Igbo-olomu area of Ikorodu, Lagos. This action has
been alleged to be perpetrated by suspected Militants on the basis of
lack of demands met by the Federal Government. These acts, are being
said to be done intentionally to drive home a message. The total body
count has risen to 26 and over 70 others injured.
Mobilising
to the scene, the Police operatives found it extremely difficult to
restore peace in the area. Identified corpses recovered are the wife of
the pastor of Zion ministry, Mr Oladoyin Jumoke, the assistant pastor of
Mountain On The Hill Ministry, Mr Michael Babatunde, and a security
guard attached to the local community micro-finance bank, John Gbenga.
Most of the residents of the community have fled to saftey elsewhere as
fear continuously grow in their hearts.
Speaking
to one of the residents, Mr Ebuka narrates the hardship being
experienced at the moment and the lack of aid from the Government as
security operatives have not been able to restore peace. He explains
"this has been the worst period of my life, i lost my first son that
night. I have never experienced such pain before. I will never wish it
on my enemy. Please come to our rescue, help us. The government should
give come to our aid."
Several other cases of victims are being recorded. The call for justice is roaring among the residents of Ikorodu.
Some
residents recounts their loses and some others are still on the run as
their whereabout is still unknown. Here are some individuals believe to
