  • One hacked as cultists go on rampage in Lagos
  • Rampaging cultists Thursday hacked a man to death in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State.
The hoodlums were said to have taken over Okoya Street, off Ojo Road, robbing and assaulting residents.
It was gathered that the onslaught which was initially among rival cult groups, was later extended to innocent residents.

While several people were feared injured in the fracas, The Nation gathered that a man, suspected to be a relative of another cult group was hacked to death in front of his home.
After hacking the man, the hoodlums were said to have abandoned him beside a drainage were he bled to death.

One Angela John said she was dispossessed of N120, 000 and two mobile phones.
“The hoodlums collected N120, 000 from me and my two mobile phones. There was nothing I could do than to surrender the phones to them. Police should help us curb the menace of these robbers who usually operate with the help of their motorcycles.

“They were at Okota Street fighting and injuring people in broad day light until policemen from Ajegunle division came,” she said.
A residence who gave his name as Emeka Uche said the cultists brandished locally made pistols, machetes, clubs and bottles.

“They robbed innocent people of their phones and other valuables. Most of those injured were returning home from the Sallah celebration. They attacked anyone they saw.
“At first the fight was among rival cult groups but later they extended it to family members and innocent people,” he said.

Efforts to get the command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police (SP) for official reaction failed as at press time.
