Lagos court sentences engineer to death for killing his wife

A Lagos High Court, Ikeja, on Thursday sentenced a mechanical engineer and businessman, Suleiman Olalekan, to death by hanging for killing his 22-year-old wife, Chika Egbo.


Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo convicted the businessman over death of his wife.Prosecutors said Olalekan poured acid on the deceased.
The court found the convict guilty on a two-count charge of murder and grievous bodily harm preferred against him by the Lagos State government, the Nation reports.

“The defendant is found guilty of murder, the defendant. Suleiman Olalekan, will be hanged by the neck until he breathe his last and is dead.“May the Lord have mercy on your soul,” the judge ruled.

The prosecution led by the state Attorney General, Adeniji Kazeem, had told the court that Olalekan committed the offence on November 5, 2012.

According to the prosecution, the convict and the deceased got married and had a child, a daughter who is currently four years-old.
