Some car theft suspects who were released from prison on bail have shocked people after being named in another theft.

The duo of Victor Eborgu and Ohuru Santus have been arrested by
police operatives attached to the Eziama Division in Aba, the commercial
hub of Abia State, for allegedly removing a Toyota Camry car from where
it was parked on Aba Road in Umuahia, the State capital.
According to Punch Metro, a police source revealed that the
operatives acted on a tip-off that some hoodlums were planning to sell a
stolen car with Registration Number CU 244 PHC earlier reported to be
missing.
It was gathered that the security agents swiftly raced to the scene and caught the suspects in the act.
The source added that the suspects, recently released from the
prison on bail, were awaiting trial for a car theft offence committed in
2016.
Confessing to the crime, Eborgu said he was truly on bail for a car theft crime he committed in the past.
He said, “I was arrested because I removed a car from where it
was parked. I used a master key in removing the car. I have stolen up
to 10 cars since I got involved in this crime. But I was granted bail
last year after I was arrested and paraded for the same crime.”
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade,
confirmed the arrest of the suspects, adding that investigation had
commenced with a view to recovering more vehicles and arresting other
members of the syndicate.
He expressed the need for all the stakeholders in the
administration of justice to come together and brainstorm on how to
reduce the incidence of suspects on bail going back to the same crime.
He said, “When there is any rise in crime, all eyes are on the
police to fight crime and protect lives and properties. But the prison
has their own roles to play in rehabilitating the arrested suspect in
the prison.”
