  • David De Gea Wins The Premier League Golden Glove Award For 2022-23
  •  Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has claimed the Golden GLove award for the 2022-23 Premier League season.

The Spaniard picked up his 16th clean sheet of the season during United's 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday afternoon and, in doing so, claimed the accolade for a second time.

It's been a turbulent season for the 32-year-old, who's future has been thrown into doubt in recent weeks amid the impending summer transfer window.

However, despite the suggestions that his time at Old Trafford may be coming to an end, the Spaniard has not let this effect his performances through the campaign.

His record in goal for the Red Devils this year sees him top the Premier League's clean sheet list, although he's not an outright winner just yet.

There are still three goalkeepers who could level De Gea's tally, meaning he would share the award, but the chances of that happening are slim.

Aaron Ramsdale, Nick Pope and Alisson Becker are all on 13 clean sheets, with three games remaining. Should De Gea concede in his final three games and one of those three keepers is not beaten in the remaining matches, they they will equal De Gea.

It will be the second time that the Spaniard has claimed the award in his career, having previously win the accolade during the 2017-18 campaign.

Though his time at United had been thrown into question recently, the United goalkeeper looks set to sign a new deal with the club that will see him take a pay-cut on his £375,000-a-week salary.

His new deal of around £200,000-a-week brings him in line with the rest of the United back line and it became clear to the player given his inconsistent form, brilliant one week and bizarre the next, that nobody in Europe would offer him more.

De Gea is certainly a Manchester United legend in goalkeeping terms. He has won every major domestic trophy and was on the bench for Jose Mourinho's Europa League triumph in 2017.

His 540 appearances for United is already the most for any goalkeeper and seventh in the all-time list. By the time his new contract expires he will almost certainly have leapfrogged Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville into the top five.
