  • Alleged Exploitation: Muyeez quits Dapper Music
  •

Another artiste has severed ties with Dapper Music & Entertainment Limited, as Nigerian musician Moshood Abdulmuiz, popularly known as Muyeez or YoungBaddo, has announced his departure from the label.

This development comes hours after Shallipopi’s exit, adding to mounting scrutiny surrounding the treatment of artistes under the label.

In a statement released on Instagram on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Muyeez accused Dapper Music of exploitation, financial mismanagement, and neglect.

He stated, “What should have been a dream come true turned into a nightmare of exploitation, neglect, and betrayal. I can no longer stay silent while my hard work and dedication are taken for granted.”

Muyeez, who signed with Dapper Music as a minor, claimed the label imposed unrealistic demands, including releasing three chart-topping EPs in one month without receiving any royalty payments.

He also alleged that Dapper Music failed to provide financial support, leaving him in dire conditions despite the commercial success of his music.

“While my music brought joy to countless fans, I was left to fend for myself. There were nights when I went to bed hungry, with no support from the very people who claimed to have my best interests at heart,” he said.

Muyeez also accused the label of creating a conflict of interest by simultaneously acting as his management, leaving him unprotected while prioritising their profits over his well-being and career growth.

The artist announced plans to pursue legal action against Dapper Music, alleging unfair contract terms, a lack of transparency regarding royalties, and inhumane treatment. “This is more than a contract termination; this is my fight for justice,” he said, urging fans and the industry to support him in his efforts to protect the rights of young artists.

Muyeez’s exit comes in the wake of similar allegations by Shallipopi, another former Dapper Music signee who announced his departure earlier.

Shallipopi, known for his hit “Elon Musk,” accused the label of mismanaging his finances and pushing him into deals that prioritised profits over his career growth.

Shallipopi has since launched his own label, Plutomania Records, signing rising stars and signaling a desire to carve a new path in the music industry.

As of the time of filing this report, Dapper Music is yet to respond to the allegations made by Muyeez and Shallipopi.
