  • Police Arrest Officer Seen ‘Assaulting’ Uber Driver In Viral Video

  • The Lagos police command has apprehended Obic Modestus, an officer. The arrest is in response to allegations of him “assaulting an Uber driver operating in the state.”

In a video that surfaced online on Monday, a police officer was seen hitting a driver while the victim was seated inside his vehicle. The visual evidence captured the alleged assault.

After the driver exited his car, the police officer was also seen slapping the driver. This was followed by the officer “dragging him into the van.” The video depicted a further escalation of the alleged assault.

The incident reportedly took place around 11 am on Sunday. Its emergence online has “elicited outrage on social media,” indicating strong public disapproval.

Providing an update on the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, stated that Modestus has been “summoned by the complaint unit of the command.” This signifies the initial steps taken by the police to address the allegations.

“He will be handed over to the Provost Department for appropriate disciplinary measures,” Hundeyin said. This indicates that the officer will face internal disciplinary proceedings.

“The Lagos State Police Command, under CP Olohundare Jimoh, will not condone any form of incivility to members of the public.” This statement underscores the police command’s stance against unprofessional conduct.
