  •

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has granted pardons to 11 inmates in a move aimed at decongesting the state’s correctional facilities and offering reformed individuals a fresh start in society

The development was announced on Sunday in a statement by Uche Anichukwu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on External Relations.

According to Anichukwu, the inmates were released as part of the governor’s exercise of his constitutional powers under Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), and in consultation with the state’s Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

He explained that the decision followed thorough reviews and recommendations from the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Advisory Council, which confirmed the inmates had demonstrated genuine reform and acquired skills to support reintegration into society.

The names of the beneficiaries are Ugochukwu Oma, Onah Nnamdi, Chiadikobi Onu, Emmanuel Sambo, Emeka Nyia, Ngene Oluebube, Francis Chinecherem, Eze Chigozie, Anthony Tombari, Francis Chibuzor, and Uzoma Nnaoche.

The released inmates were officially handed over to the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kingsley Udeh, by the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Victor Udeh.
