The Federal Government has canceled the traditional military parade for the 26th Democracy Day celebration scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025
In a statement released by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Democracy Day celebration, it was confirmed that President Bola Tinubu will deliver a nationwide broadcast at 7 a.m. on Thursday, instead of attending the usual parade held in previous years.
As part of the revised program, President Tinubu will participate in a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12 noon. The session will feature discussions on the state of the nation, reflections on Nigeria’s democratic progress, and calls for unity and institutional reform.
Later in the day, a public lecture will be held at 4 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. The event will bring together top government officials, political figures, and members of civil society to engage on the theme: “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms.”
The government urged citizens to tune in to the president’s broadcast and participate in the day’s activities, which are geared toward promoting deeper democratic values and sustainable reforms.
