Officers from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have arrested four people for illegal dumping of refuse
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Wednesday announced their arrest in a statement on his official X account.
“In the early hours of Tuesday, June 11, 2025, officers of the Monitoring and Compliance Department of LAWMA apprehended individuals found illegally dumping refuse by the roadside along the Ikorodu–Itowolo highway,” Wahab said.
According to Wahab, the culprits were immediately arrested and transferred to the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force office in Oshodi for further processing.
He added that the vehicle used in the illegal activity was impounded and is currently secured at the LAWMA office in Ogudu, Lagos.
Both offenders have been handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps for prosecution in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.
Wahab also said that Simeon David Akpata – 22yrs and Miss Oluwamotemi Otunba – 28yrs were found dumping refuse along Ebute-Ipakodo Road in Ikorodu on Wednesday by a concerned Lagosian who accosted and ensured that they were arrested by enforcement agents.
The commissioner said they will be tried immediately in accordance with the relevant laws of Lagos State.
“While we appreciate the effort of this concerned Lagosian, we reiterate that a cleaner Lagos is a collective responsibility of everyone,” he said.
“Keep your environment clean and stop the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the drainages.”
