Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo State and current representative of Edo North, caused a major disruption at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Wednesday after arriving late for his scheduled flight to Abuja
According to sources at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), Oshiomhole was booked on a 6:30 am Air Peace flight but showed up after the scheduled departure time. Upon his arrival, he allegedly blocked the entrance to the Zulu Terminal, insisting on being allowed to board despite missing check-in deadlines.
Eyewitnesses say the senator refused to leave the entrance, causing a bottleneck that delayed other passengers and disrupted normal terminal operations. Efforts by the terminal manager to de-escalate the situation reportedly failed, prompting the intervention of the regional manager.
A brief management meeting was quickly convened in an attempt to persuade the senator to step aside and allow activities at the terminal to resume.
Despite the pressure, Air Peace declined to accommodate Oshiomhole, standing by its strict check-in policy. A source familiar with the matter said, “He missed the flight. That’s the truth. He wanted them to delay the flight, but Air Peace stuck to their rules.”
The incident created significant delays and tension at the terminal, described by witnesses as chaotic. Staff and airport officials were seen trying to calm the situation and restore order.
The Zulu Terminal, a major domestic wing of the MMIA handling flights to cities including Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin, and Enugu, had recently undergone a N2.2 billion expansion to boost its capacity.
Efforts to reach Air Peace spokesperson Dr. Ejike Ndiulo and MMIA’s regional general manager Mr. Olatokunbo Arewa were unsuccessful as of press time..
