A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district has been hailed for his bravery after surviving a sudden leopard attack while working at a brick kiln
The terrifying incident occurred on Monday, June 23, in Jugunpur village, located within the Dhaurahara forest range. It went viral after political leader Akhilesh Yadav shared the footage online.
According to forest officials, 35-year-old Mihilal, a resident of Girdhari Purwa, was going about his daily work at the kiln, unaware that a leopard had been hiding inside its chimney. As he approached the structure, the big cat leapt out and pounced on him.
Incredibly, Mihilal refused to run. Instead, he defended himself with his bare hands, managing to hold off the leopard long enough for nearby workers to intervene. Alarmed by the struggle, they rushed to the scene and began hurling bricks and stones at the animal, eventually forcing it to flee into a nearby banana plantation.
The forest department was quickly alerted, and a search operation was launched. Officials were eventually able to capture the leopard, though some sustained injuries during the process.
The incident has sparked widespread admiration for Mihilal’s courage, as well as renewed conversations about human-wildlife conflict in areas close to forest zones.
