  • Abure is an impostor – LP caretaker backs Peter Obi
  •

The Senator Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party (LP) has lashed out at Julius Abure, labelling him an impostor

The committee also dismissed the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Abure-led faction demanding that Peter Obi resign from the party or face expulsion.

In a statement signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, the LP described the ultimatum as mischievous and baseless.

“The attention of the Labour Party has been drawn to misleading reports suggesting that Mr. Peter Obi was given a 48-hour ultimatum to resign over his participation in recent coalition talks and the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja,” the statement said.

“For the record, the Labour Party leadership, on May 26, 2025, publicly declared its full support for Mr. Obi’s role in the coalition effort to build a credible alternative and rescue Nigeria from the failures of the APC. That position stands unchanged.”

The committee reiterated that Obi’s involvement in the coalition and the ADC unveiling was fully endorsed by the party leadership.

It went on to describe those issuing the ultimatum as “political jesters” who have no legal or party-backed authority.

“These individuals are not recognised by the Labour Party or the law. They were long ago sacked by the Supreme Court and suspended from the party for persistent acts of indiscipline and anti-party conduct,” the statement noted.

“It is the mess left behind by these impostors that the current leadership under Senator Nenadi Usman is working hard to clean up.

“We urge the public and media to ignore these distractions and focus on credible sources. For the avoidance of doubt, the only legitimate voice on Labour Party matters remains the office of Senator Nenadi Usman, Acting National Chairman.”
