A National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officer has been k!lled during a raid on a suspected drug den in Ondo State
The officer, identified as Jide, was part of a team that stormed an apartment in the Ita Nla area of Ondo West Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the operation took place in the early hours based on intelligence about illegal drug activities at the location.
As the team moved in, they came under heavy gunfire from the suspects, who tried to stop them from accessing drugs hidden in the ceiling of the building. Officer Jide, who was stationed outside to provide security, was shot in the neck.
He was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed de.ad on arrival.
A witness said, “Some of the operatives went inside to recover the drugs while Jide stayed outside on guard. Suddenly, gunmen appeared and shot him.”
Efforts to reach the NDLEA’s state spokesperson, Adebayo Solomon, were unsuccessful.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident.
He said that four suspects had been arrested and a single-barrel gun recovered at the scene. He added that a joint investigation with the NDLEA is ongoing to track down the remaining suspects.
