The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has distanced itself from former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, declaring that he is neither a member of the party nor authorized to speak on its behalf
During a press conference in Kaduna on Friday, the party’s North-West Zonal Secretary, Inuwa Idris, raised alarm over El-Rufai’s recent appearances at policy dialogues and strategy meetings where he allegedly presented himself as an SDP representative.
“It has come to our attention that Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i has taken it upon himself to appear in various fora purporting to speak on behalf of the Social Democratic Party. Let this be made unequivocally clear: he is not authorised, mandated, or recognised by the SDP in any capacity,” Idris said.
He emphasized that El-Rufai does not feature in the party’s membership register, has never engaged in its programs, and holds no appointment from the national leadership.
The party reaffirmed its leadership under Acting National Chairman Dr. Sadiq Umar, National Secretary Chief Olu Agunloye, and 2023 presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo, urging the public to disregard any claims or statements made by El-Rufai in the party’s name.
In the same address, the SDP called for the suspension of Dr. Umar Ardo, accusing him of using the SDP platform to promote the newly formed African Democratic Assembly (ADA).
The party stressed that all official communications must come only from recognised SDP officials.
