Veteran actress Bimbo Akintola has expressed concern that the Nigerian film industry has lost its passion-driven roots, prioritizing physical appearance over artistic dedication
In an interview with fellow actress, Ayo Adesanya, she lamented that today’s actors focus more on glamour, makeup, and body enhancement than storytelling and craft.
Contrasting the current era with Nollywood’s early days, Bimbo recalled working tirelessly without pay or comfort to bring stories to life.
She noted that the industry’s emphasis has shifted from realism and content to outward appearance, warning that this focus on looks is fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying.
Bimbo Akintola said: “Now, people are saying, ‘My makeup isn’t right for this, and I can’t wear this.’ Is that what the film is about? We are more concerned about our outfits and how we look. This is why, generally, there is a spark in BBL. It is now about looks and not content or what one has. Looks will fade no matter what you do,“
