Use your platforms to promote Unity – Tinubu tells influencers

 

President Bola Tinubu has called on young Nigerians in the digital media space to use their platforms to promote national unity, development, and economic growth rather than fueling division

Speaking at the opening of the Progressives Digital Media Summit on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu urged social media influencers, content creators, and tech innovators to embrace truth, verify information before sharing, and channel their digital talents toward nation-building.

The summit, themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,” brought together key figures from both the government and digital media sectors.

“Your generation has recognised this moment. You are using digital tools to innovate, educate, and demand accountability. But as your influence grows, so must our collective sense of purpose and responsibility,” the President said.

“I urge you to continue using digital platforms to advance our nation’s progress. Build businesses that employ others. Create content that uplifts and unites. Use your influence to foster unity, not division.”

Highlighting the innovative spirit of Nigeria’s youth, Tinubu praised their efforts in developing apps and building vibrant online communities, saying, “You are not waiting for the future—you are building it.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to boosting the digital economy through initiatives such as the National Digital Innovation Fund and startup-friendly policies. However, he also warned against the risks of misinformation, cybercrime, and unethical online behavior.
