A General Court Martial at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced Private Lukman Musa of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division to d8ath by hanging for m3rdering tricycle rider Abdulrahman Isa in Azere, Bauchi State

Brigadier General Liafis Bello, who presided over the court, delivered the judgment on Thursday, September 18, 2025, after finding Musa guilty of murder, culpable homicide, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Court proceedings revealed that Musa, assisted by an accomplice named Oba, lured Isa to his home under the pretext of helping him move belongings. He then struck Isa on the head with a wooden object and strangled him to d3ath. Musa placed the body in a sack and dumped it between Shira and Yala villages, later selling Isa’s tricycle. He was also caught with 34 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition without authorization.

Bello described Musa’s conduct as barbaric and a betrayal of military ethics.
“You mercilessly metamorphosed from a defender of citizens to a k!ller. Your action is an embarrassment and disgrace to the Nigerian Army,” he said.

The soldier was sentenced to d3ath for culpable homicide under Section 220 of the Penal Code, given two years’ imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition, and dismissed from the Army with ignominy.

“This judgment signifies the Nigerian Army’s resolve to ensure that no personnel operates outside the law or laid down standard operating procedures,” he stated.
