A Nigerian mother has shared her heartbreaking experience as she battles emotional distress and family pressure after delivering two children through Caesarean section (CS).
According to her, she was strongly advised by medical professionals and well-meaning individuals not to get pregnant again after her first CS delivery. However, barely a year after the birth of their first child, her husband began demanding another pregnancy.
When she expressed fear about going through another CS, her husband allegedly threatened to marry a second wife who would “bear him children freely.” Afraid of losing her marriage, she reluctantly agreed to get pregnant again.
A year and three months after her first delivery, she became pregnant — and unfortunately, her second child was also delivered through CS. The mother said she has now resolved never to get pregnant again due to the health risks involved.
She explained that she considers her two daughters enough for their family, but her husband insists on having another child, specifically a male. His family members are reportedly encouraging him to take another wife to achieve this.
Now dealing with intense pressure and fear, the woman says she is slipping into depression. She worries that if her husband leaves her, her CS scar might affect her chances of finding love again. She also fears that any future partner may expect her to bear more children.
“I am just so confused. My world appears to be crashing,” she lamented.
Her story reflects the struggles many women face in marriages where cultural expectations and gender preferences overshadow concern for their well-being.
