Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed claims suggesting he is planning to officially join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an X Space conversation on Sunday night, Obi explained that there is no need for him to “join” the ADC because he has always been part of the broader political coalition that includes the party.
According to him, the coalition has existed from inception, and as such, it would be misleading to suggest that he is newly defecting.
“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of,” Obi stated.
He further stressed that there is no arrangement within the ADC structure for anyone to step down for him, noting that all parties involved are working together with mutual understanding and shared objectives.
“I’ve been part of the coalition from day one. Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC. We have all agreed to work together,” he added.
Peter Obi also maintained his respectful political relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a respected leader within the opposition fold.
The clarification comes amid growing political speculation regarding alignments and strategic moves ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political camps continue to reposition ahead of the next contest.
