  • From Homeless to Millionaire: How Towi’s Unexpected Rap Performance Changed His Life at the Heirs Insurance Travel Festival

  • At Reportnaija, we celebrate stories that remind us that life can truly move from zero to one hundred when you refuse to give up on yourself. Over the weekend, a young man named Towi became a living example of that belief.

The life-changing moment happened on Saturday at the Heirs Insurance Travel Festival, an event organized by one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing insurance brands, Heirs Insurance Group. The company’s chairman, Tony Elumelu, was also in attendance.

To lighten up the atmosphere, the event’s MC announced a fun competition: anyone who could rap using the Heirs Insurance name was welcome to come on stage. The winner was expected to walk away with a modest prize of ₦20,000.

Unknown to the MC, that simple announcement was about to change a man’s destiny.

Dozens of guests participated, but one contestant, Towi, took the opportunity personally. He seized the microphone and delivered an electrifying rap performance that left the entire hall — including Tony Elumelu himself — on their feet, cheering and dancing.

But behind the energy and confidence was a painful reality…

Until that very Saturday, Towi was homeless.
He had come to the event simply to get free food. Insurance was the last thing on his mind — survival was his focus. Yet, while trying to secure something to eat, life presented him with a rare opportunity… and he grabbed it with both hands.

Despite an empty stomach, he performed with passion and heart. His talent was undeniable, and the crowd loved him.

His reward? Far beyond anything he expected.

Instead of the promised ₦20,000, Tony Elumelu gifted him ₦1 million on the spot.
    But it didn’t end there.

Elumelu, fondly called TOE, also offered to sponsor Towi’s musical career whenever he is ready.
Another top business leader at the event, Nonso Okpala of VFD Group, added an extra ₦1 million, bringing the total gift to ₦2 million.

In minutes, a homeless, jobless young graduate became a millionaire.

Before that day, nothing seemed to be working for him. But he never lost hope. He kept believing that one day “e go better” — and on Saturday, life finally answered.

Towi’s story is a powerful reminder that your breakthrough can come when you least expect it, but only if you keep showing up and remain prepared for that defining moment.

    We’re genuinely happy for him.
There are countless lessons in this story — perseverance, resilience, and the boldness to seize opportunities.
