  • Grieving Mum Makes Her Late Daughter's Hair for the Last Time

  • A heartbroken mother, Heather Ella Rise, has shared a deeply emotional moment as she prepares her 11-year-old daughter, Kali, for burial today.

In a touching social media post that has moved many Nigerians and people around the world, Heather revealed her decision to personally dress Kali and style her hair one final time before laying her to rest.

"I've decided that I am going to dress Kali and do her hair, myself, a process that I've decided to do alone. I was the 1st person to touch her when she came into the world, and I'll be the last one to touch her before I lower her into the ground. Pray for me," she wrote.

Kali tragically passed away on December 8, 2025, after suffering a severe asthma attack. The young girl, described as a vibrant sixth-grader, had battled severe asthma for years, including a life-threatening episode in 2019 where both her lungs collapsed.

According to reports circulating online, Kali was under the care of her father's girlfriend at the time of the fatal attack, and emergency services were not called immediately — a delay that Heather believes could have saved her daughter's life.

Heather, a devoted teacher based in Las Vegas, Nevada, with strong ties to Los Angeles, had repeatedly raised concerns about Kali's safety and medical needs during custody arrangements. Despite her warnings to the court about the seriousness of Kali's condition, custody was shared, and the little girl was in her father's care when tragedy struck.

In another post, Heather expressed profound anger and grief: "Kali died in the care of her father. His girlfriend didn’t call 911 nor take her to the hospital when the symptoms started."

A viral video shared by the grieving mum shows her gently brushing and styling Kali's hair, with the caption: "Mom does her daughter's hair for the last time 💔".

December 30, 2025, Kali was laid to rest at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, in a service Heather says will send her off "like the princess that she is."

Heather set up a GoFundMe titled "Kali’s Heavenly Crown & Carriage" to cover funeral expenses, including transporting her daughter back to their family roots. The fundraiser quickly reached its $25,000 goal, thanks to generous donations from supporters touched by the story.

As the world watches this mother's unimaginable pain, many are calling for justice and greater awareness about childhood asthma and child safety in custody cases.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Heather Ella Rise and her family during this difficult time. May little Kali rest in perfect peace. 🕊️💜
