  • Kidnapping Case in Edo State: Harrison Gwamnishu Denies Allegations, Calls for Transparency as Victim Remains in Captivity

  • A fresh controversy has emerged in the ongoing kidnapping incident in Edo State, as a Harrison Gwamnishu assisting security agencies has publicly refuted allegations of misconduct, insisting he remains committed to seeing the abducted victim released.

In a detailed statement shared with the public, Harrison Gwamnishu—who has been collaborating with the Police, Military, and local vigilantes—clarified the sequence of events leading to the current situation.

According to him, the kidnappers initially demanded ₦50 million from the family of the abducted couple. The family negotiated and eventually raised ₦20 million, which the kidnappers accepted on the condition that only the pregnant woman would be released.

Despite his clear stance that he does not negotiate with kidnappers, he explained that his role was to track the transaction using advanced technological methods capable of generating real-time location data for security forces.

On Monday, the family informed him that the kidnappers were demanding an additional ₦20 million, this time claiming it was for the release of both victims. He advised them to clarify whether the demand covered the husband and wife together, and they confirmed it did.

However, after delivering the money, only the woman was released. According to those present, the kidnappers did not count the money before declaring it “incomplete,” refusing to free the male victim and ordering those who delivered the ransom to leave immediately.

Upon their return, the situation devolved into accusations and counter-accusations. The tech expert said he visited the DPO’s office in Auchi, where he explained the strategic methods typically used to track ransom operations—methods he emphasized cannot be fully disclosed for operational security.

Reacting to claims that he withheld information or acted improperly, he stated:

“I remember clearly telling them we would work on the money, but how it’s done is not something that should be revealed to anyone. I did not steal any money as alleged.”

He further confirmed that he has briefed the authorities who invited him to Edo State and expressed full readiness to undergo investigation, insisting the findings be made public.

As the male victim remains in captivity, he vowed this would be his last public comment on the matter until the victim is safely released.

Relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), have been tagged for intervention.
