A young Lagos woman, identified as Chidera Nancy, has narrated an unexpected encounter she had during a routine trip to the market, an experience she says left her both surprised and irritated.
According to her, she had stepped out to buy foodstuffs, wearing a simple sleeveless top and a pair of short jeans. She noticed a group of women staring repeatedly, but she paid them no mind and continued with her shopping.
Minutes later, one of the women walked up to her and politely asked about the skincare product she uses, admiring her skin tone. Nancy explained that she currently uses baby oil mixed with carrot and turmeric, and the woman insisted on taking her contact in case she needed guidance on how to prepare the mixture.
However, things took a strange turn later in the evening when Nancy received a WhatsApp message from the same woman. After exchanging pleasantries, the conversation reportedly shifted from skincare to personal interest. Nancy was shocked when the lady asked if she was in a relationship, before eventually confessing that she was attracted to her and wanted them to be “close,” promising to take care of her financially and otherwise.
Sensing where the conversation was heading, Nancy asked directly if the woman was a lesbian, and the lady admitted openly.
Nancy said she immediately expressed her displeasure, rejected the advances, blocked the lady’s number and deleted her contact.
She described the experience as disturbing and warned women to be vigilant and cautious of strangers who may approach them under harmless pretenses.
