  • Missing Police Inspector Found Dead in Benue

  • The body of a police inspector who had been declared missing in Benue State has been recovered in Guma Local Government Area.

The deceased, identified as Mohammed Yakubu, was an inspector attached to the 13 Police Mobile Force (PMF) and deployed to Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF). He was reported missing on June 13, 2025, while on official duty in Tse Keleke, a community located about 10 kilometres from Daudu.

According to security sources, the remains were discovered on Thursday in a bush close to the area where the officer was last seen. The recovery followed coordinated efforts by a joint security team comprising personnel from the Makurdi Metropolitan Area Command, Daudu Police Division, the Police Medical Unit, State Intelligence Service (SIS), 13 PMF, Operation Zenda JTF, the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and Benue State Civil Protection Guards.

The team reportedly recovered skeletonised remains, which were subsequently transported to the 13 PMF base for further procedures.

Police authorities disclosed that after necessary consultations and documentation, the remains would be released to the officer’s family for burial. The recovery, according to the command, brings closure to the long-standing missing-in-action case.
