  • Rejection, Resilience and Results: How a Moment of Disrespect Turned Into a ₦15 Million Breakthrough

  • Two years ago, a young entrepreneur identified simply as King Samuel shared a personal experience that underscores the power of focus, resilience, and choosing the right circle.

According to him, he met a lady online during a discussion about plans and expectations for 2023. Although they had never met physically, he said he noticed potential in her ideas and mindset, which prompted him to consider her for his team.

“My circle has always been about planning, sharing ideas, and execution,” he explained. “No noise, no games — just growth.”

As discussions progressed and his vision became clearer, he decided it was necessary to meet in person. Following advice from his team, he agreed to a private meeting to better understand her level of seriousness and commitment.

On the agreed day, he arrived early at a quiet location suitable for meaningful conversation. Midway into their discussion, she asked an unexpected question:
“Are you King Samuel or someone else?”

He confirmed his identity, sensing nothing unusual at the time. After the meeting, he left politely and later sent a message to ensure she arrived home safely.

Her response came as a surprise.

She informed him that she could no longer be part of his team. When asked why, her reason was blunt — she said she was not comfortable associating with him because she did not find him good-looking, describing him as “too slim” and not her type.

King Samuel clarified that the engagement was never about romance or personal attraction. His focus, he said, was strictly business and building something meaningful with like-minded individuals.

    “I didn’t argue. I didn’t explain myself. I didn’t feel bad,” he noted. “I simply moved on.”

He cut off communication and redirected his energy toward people who respected him, valued his vision, and believed in the process.

Three months later, King Samuel and three other team members went into business together. The venture, he revealed, generated up to ₦15 million in revenue.

At one point, he admitted feeling exhausted and considered dissolving the team. However, encouragement from two members kept him going.

“They told me, ‘Don’t stop, let’s keep going.’ That revived me,” he said.

Through trust, shared ideas, and commitment, the team executed their plans successfully. Despite contributing more resources, King Samuel said profits were shared equally, stressing that everyone earned their reward.

Sometime later, the same lady who had earlier withdrawn reached out again. She apologized and requested another meeting.

He read the message — and blocked her.

“Not out of anger,” he explained, “but out of growth.”

Reflecting on the experience, King Samuel shared a lesson he believes many can learn from.

“Sometimes, people don’t deserve access to the new you after disrespecting the old you,” he said. “Don’t let people’s opinions delay your destiny. Don’t let rejection define your direction.”

He emphasized the importance of choosing one’s circle carefully, warning that negative labels can destroy confidence and derail purpose.

“There is nothing you cannot achieve in life,” he concluded. “You just need the right people — those who will push you, support you, and believe in you even when nothing is visible yet.”
