  • Tinubu, Otti Hold Crucial meeting as Efforts to Secure Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Intensify

  • President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday met with Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in what sources describe as part of ongoing efforts to secure the release of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The meeting comes shortly after Governor Otti visited Kanu at the Sokoto prison facility where he is currently serving his sentence. Otti was accompanied during the visit by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma; as well as representatives of the Sokoto State Government.

Governor Otti had earlier reaffirmed that securing Kanu’s freedom remains a top priority for his administration, noting that a coordinated plan is already in motion.

“While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu retains the right to appeal his conviction, I want to assure that I have activated and will continue with the agreed strategy until his freedom is achieved,” Otti said through his media team.

Tuesday’s engagement with President Tinubu is seen as a continuation of those efforts, with expectations that a combination of political negotiation and legal mechanisms may be deployed in resolving Kanu’s prolonged detention.
