A young family has raised an urgent alarm after a tragic and deeply troubling incident involving their newly employed house help.
According to a detailed account shared on Facebook by Nkechiyenre Cecilia Mbanoso, the family had only recently welcomed a new baby and decided to employ a house help to assist during the postnatal period. They reportedly contacted an agent who promised to source a suitable person for the job.
About two weeks ago, the agent introduced a young woman said to be 20 years old. After meeting her, asking basic questions, and reaching an agreement, the family asked her to resume work the following day.
However, what has now turned into a nightmare is the fact that the family did not carry out a medical examination on the young woman before employing her — a decision they say they deeply regret.
Barely two weeks after she started work, the family said they discovered the house help lying lifeless in her room. They claim she had not complained of any illness or shown any signs of distress before the incident.
Adding to the confusion and fear, the family says they do not know the young woman’s place of origin and do not have contact details for any of her relatives. Efforts to reach the agent who brought her have also failed, as his phone line has reportedly been unreachable since the incident.
In an attempt to understand what may have happened, the family searched her room but found no personal documents or identifying information. The only unusual item discovered was a small bottle containing a substance believed to be herbal medicine, with no label or name.
The family has expressed deep fear and concern over the situation, stating that they are unsure of the next steps to take and how to prove that they had no involvement in the young woman’s death.
They are appealing to the public for guidance on how to handle the situation properly and lawfully, as the incident has left them shaken and distressed.
As of the time of this report, no official statement has been issued by law enforcement authorities regarding the incident.
The story has sparked widespread concern online, with many Nigerians calling for greater regulation of domestic worker agents and stressing the importance of proper documentation, background checks, and medical screening before employment.
