A woman identified as Mrs. Juliet Igwe is set to be arraigned this morning at the Magistrate’s Court in Owerri, Imo State, over alleged acts of grievous harm and attempted murder involving a five-year-old girl, Onyinyechi.
The case is being prosecuted by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, following reports that the child suffered severe physical injuries allegedly inflicted by the accused on November 25. According to available information, the minor was left to wander in critical condition until she was rescued days later.
A human rights group, Stand For Humanity Foundation, intervened in the matter after discovering the child’s condition. The organization reportedly rescued Onyinyechi and facilitated the arrest of Mrs. Igwe on December 4.
Led by activist journalist Chidiebube Okeoma, the foundation ensured the immediate admission of the child to the Imo State University Medical Centre in Owerri, where she has been receiving medical treatment. The group has continued to advocate for the child’s recovery and for justice to be served.
Concerned members of the public and rights advocates are expected to be present in court as proceedings commence.
Supporters are also encouraged to share awareness materials on social media to draw attention to the case and help ensure the child receives adequate medical care and justice.
