British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua has resumed training just days after surviving a fatal car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two people very close to him.
The former world champion was involved in the crash on December 29 near Lagos while travelling as a passenger in a vehicle that reportedly collided with a stationary truck. Joshua sustained only minor injuries, but the accident tragically took the lives of his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and his long-time trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele.
In a brief post shared on Snapchat, the 36-year-old described his return to the gym as a form of “mental strength therapy,” signalling his determination to push forward despite the emotional toll of the loss. A video showed Joshua back in training, sparking reactions from fans who praised his resilience.
Sources close to the boxer say Joshua is already setting his sights on a potential showdown with longtime rival Tyson Fury. According to what was gathered, Joshua intends to dedicate the fight to the memory of his late friends and is considering donating proceeds from the bout to support their families.
Speaking candidly, Joshua reportedly said he cannot mourn forever and must find the strength to stand up and move forward. He is said to view his next fight as a tribute to the men he lost, drawing motivation from their memory.
The boxer’s response to the tragedy has resonated with many supporters, reinforcing a message he appears to be living by: when faced with hardship, strength is found in rising, not breaking.
