Nigeria’s Super Eagles have made a significant leap in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, rising to 26th position globally and third in Africa following their impressive showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The new rankings, released on Monday, reflect Nigeria’s strong performance at the continental tournament, where the team finished third overall. The Super Eagles moved up 12 places from their previous 38th position, recording the highest points gain in the update with an additional 79.09 points.
Under the guidance of head coach Eric Chelle, Nigeria won six of their seven matches at AFCON, recording victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, Algeria and Egypt. Their campaign ended in the semi-finals with a narrow penalty shootout defeat to host nation Morocco.
As a result, the Super Eagles now rank behind only African champions Senegal, who are 12th in the world, and Morocco, placed eighth globally. Algeria and Egypt follow Nigeria in fourth and fifth positions on the African rankings.
On the global stage, Spain sit atop the FIFA rankings, followed by Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium and Germany in the top 10.
