A tragic incident has shaken Ogale community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State after a family of six was found dead inside their apartment on Sunday morning, January 11, 2026.
The deceased were identified as Mr. Obele Theophilus, his wife, their three children, and a brother-in-law who was reportedly staying with the family. According to neighbours, the family retired to bed on Saturday night, January 10, but raised concern when they failed to come out the following morning.
Worried by the unusual silence, neighbours forced the door open and were met with the lifeless bodies of all six occupants inside the apartment.
Meanwhile, conflicting accounts have emerged online. A Facebook user who claimed to be a close friend of Mr. Theophilus alleged that the family’s house help was also among those who died. However, this claim has not been confirmed by the authorities as of the time of filing this report.
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to officially disclose the cause of death, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Security operatives were said to have visited the scene, while the bodies were moved for further examination.
Speculation has continued to trail the tragedy, with some residents and social media users suggesting possible poisoning or inhalation of generator fumes. However, no official conclusion has been reached.
The incident has thrown the Ogale community into mourning, as residents await the outcome of the police investigation.
