A Nigerian woman has taken to TikTok to share a deeply distressing experience she says followed the birth of her child, sparking widespread reactions and conversations about maternal healthcare.
In the emotional video, the woman narrated how she endured severe pain for days after delivery, alongside an unusual and overwhelming odour coming from her body. According to her, the smell became so intense that her husband reportedly had to wear a nose mask whenever he assisted her while bathing.
She explained that after six days of unbearable pain and embarrassment, she decided to examine herself using a mirror. It was then she noticed a white object protruding from her body. Alarmed, she immediately contacted the nurse who attended to her during childbirth.
The nurse, upon hearing her description, reportedly realised what had gone wrong and informed her that a sanitary pad had been forgotten inside her body after delivery. The woman said the nurse then guided her on how to carefully remove it herself.
She described the removal process as extremely painful, revealing that it took nearly two hours before she was able to pull it out completely. According to her, the odour that followed was so overwhelming that it filled the entire house, forcing everyone indoors to step outside.
Her story has since gone viral on TikTok, with thousands of reactions and comments from women who shared similar experiences. Some commenters claimed foreign objects were left in their bodies for weeks after childbirth, while others said theirs went unnoticed for even longer periods.
