In a shocking incident that has left the Agamọ Community in mourning, suspected bandits have killed Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State. The traditional ruler was murdered on Wednesday evening during a violent confrontation at his palace.
According to community sources, about 10 heavily armed men invaded the monarch's residence around 7:50 p.m., intending to abduct him and possibly members of his household. Oba Falodun, known for his strong leadership in the community, reportedly resisted the attackers fiercely. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the gunmen first opened fire on the monarch, but remarkably, the bullets failed to penetrate his body. Frustrated, the assailants then resorted to striking him on the head with a heavy object, leading to his immediate death.
The daughter of the late monarch recounted the harrowing ordeal, describing how the bandits hacked her father to death after their initial attempts to subdue him failed. "It was a night of terror," she said, speaking to local reporters amid tears. "They came in numbers, armed to the teeth, and my father fought back with everything he had."
Police authorities in Ondo State have confirmed the incident. Spokesman Abayomi Jimoh stated that information was received from a community leader indicating that six armed men stormed the residence and forcibly took the monarch away. The victim was later found a few meters from his compound with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. A joint manhunt involving the police and Amotekun Corps has been launched to apprehend the perpetrators.
This tragic event highlights the growing insecurity in parts of Ondo State, where banditry and kidnapping have become increasingly common. Residents of Agamọ have expressed shock and fear, calling for enhanced security measures to protect traditional institutions and communities.
The late Oba Falodun was a respected figure in the region, often involved in community development and conflict resolution. His death has sparked widespread condemnation, with calls for swift justice.
