‎Empowering the Next Generation: Education Awareness Campaign in Eket Local Government Area

‎In commemoration of the International Day of Education 2026, a consortium of organizations known as Child Education Community Watch Security Initiative (CECWSI), comprising AdiahaObong Foundation, Doro-Voice Against Violence and Abuse Initiative (Doro-Voice Initiative), FAUDOF Foundation, Protocol Professionals and Home Security, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice Uyo, conducted a school sensitization tour to selected primary schools in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

‎The event, held on January 20, 2026, centered on the 2026 International Day of Education theme, "The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education." The campaign aimed to educate pupils on the significance of education, raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV) using the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, and promote security consciousness among children, teachers and the school environment.

‎The sensitization exercise was carried out in three schools: Government Nursery/Primary School, Mkpok; Visef International School, James Town Road; and Character and Skills Academy, Ikot Afaha. Interactive sessions focused on the value of education, emphasizing its role in achieving dreams and securing a better future. Pupils were encouraged to remain focused and motivated in their studies.

‎Resource persons and Volunteers included:

‎- Dr. Mfon-ete Michael, Founder/Director, AdiahaObong Foundation, who spoke on the importance of staying focused on education

‎- HRH Chief Franklin Abraham Udoeyo, Founder/Director, FAUDOF Foundation, who discussed the power of security

‎- Dorothy Edet, Executive Director, Doro-Voice Initiative, who highlighted the importance of education and addressed GBV

‎- Volunteers on the team were Abasifreke James of Doro-Voice Against Violence and Abuse Initiative and Isaac Friday of AdiahaObong Foundation

‎The campaign team led by Dr. Mfon-ete Michael Founder/Director, AdiahaObong Foundation addressed education, Child Security, GBV, highlighting the VAPP Law and promoting a culture of respect and safety. Children were taught personal safety measures, protection from abuse and exploitation. The sessions were engaging, with pupils actively participating.

‎To support ongoing awareness and learning, the organizations donated copies of the VAPP Law, Referral Pathway, training manuals and also donated educational materials.

‎The exercise was deemed successful and impactful, contributing to increased awareness among pupils on education, personal safety, and protection against abuse as they recommend continued engagements to strengthen child protection and awareness at the grassroots level, fostering a culture of co-created education and empowerment.
