In a devastating incident that has shocked the community of Amaji village in Umuoyoro, Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State, a man identified as Maduabuchi, commonly known as Abuchi, has been arrested for the alleged brutal murder of his wife. The tragedy unfolded on February 19, 2026, leaving behind two young children and a family in mourning.
According to reports from the Rivers State Police Command, the incident occurred on the couple's farm where an argument escalated into violence. Abuchi allegedly used a kitchen knife to attack his wife, inflicting fatal injuries that led to her death. Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect was apprehended by villagers and handed over to the Eberi Police Division. The case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The victim's sister, Chimereucheya Abigail Enyinnaya, shared a raw and emotional account on Facebook, detailing the horror of the event. She revealed that her sister married Abuchi in December 2020, and described the perpetrator as hailing from Amaji village. "This is not fiction or one of my creatives, this is my story!" she wrote, emphasizing the real-life nightmare her family is enduring.
In her post, Enyinnaya recounted receiving a call from Abuchi's family on February 19, informing them of the incident. She alleged that Abuchi left his workshop at noon, claiming he was going to see his wife and children, but instead went to the farm where his wife was harvesting cassava. There, he reportedly beat her severely before cutting off her head with a kitchen knife. Adding to the tragedy, Enyinnaya claimed that upon returning home, Abuchi announced he had killed his wife and then shot his brother who attempted to intervene, before fleeing the scene.
Abuchi reportedly emerged from hiding on February 20 and was captured by police. Enyinnaya expressed her profound grief, stating, "My sister was brutally murdered by her husband! She died with a closed mouth and is not able to narrate what tragic moments she'd faced with a beast!" She highlighted the impact on the couple's two children, calling for justice and urging that the perpetrator "does not deserve life."
Describing the gruesome aftermath, Enyinnaya shared that she saw photos of her sister in the mortuary, with severe injuries to her face, stomach, and a completely severed head that was later attached to the body. "The heart of man is really wicked," she lamented, pleading for divine intervention in the case.
This case has drawn attention to the rising concerns over domestic violence in Nigeria, with calls from community members and online users for swift justice. The Rivers State Police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway, and Abuchi remains in custody without any stated justification for his actions.
