Two people have been confirmed dead and eight others injured following a tragic road accident involving a commercial minibus along the busy Okota–Mile 2 corridor in Lagos.
According to information from emergency authorities, the crash occurred after another vehicle allegedly reversed on the highway, forcing the minibus driver to brake abruptly. The sudden action caused the bus to lose control, overturn and burst into flames moments later.
Further findings revealed that a container filled with petrol was inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. The fuel reportedly ignited after the bus overturned, worsening the impact of the crash and leading to fatalities.
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, rescued survivors from the wreckage and conveyed the injured victims to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased were also recovered and taken away by relevant authorities.
Officials have since warned motorists against reckless driving, particularly reversing on major highways, and cautioned passengers and commercial drivers against transporting highly flammable substances in public vehicles, describing the practice as extremely dangerous.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and compliance with traffic regulations on Lagos highways.
