Youths in Abak have called for a new direction in the political leadership of the area ahead of the 2027 elections into the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA), saying the time has come for a generational shift in representation.
In a statement, the youths under the aegis of Abak Young Professionals said they are determined to move beyond the traditional political order that, according to them, has not adequately reflected the aspirations and energy of the younger generation.
The statement which was signed by the Coordinator and Secretary Uwem Etukudo and Samuel Philip they noted that young people form the majority of the population and play a critical role in mobilising voters and sustaining political structures during elections.
According to the group, the next representative of Abak in the State Assembly should embody fresh ideas, strong grassroots connection and a clear understanding of the social and economic realities facing the younger generation.
The youths maintained that while they respect the contributions of elders in the community, the political future of Abak requires leaders who can bring renewed energy, innovation and a forward-looking approach to governance.
They therefore urged aspiring candidates to demonstrate competence, policy clarity and a commitment to addressing the needs of young people and the wider community.
The group added that 2027 presents an opportunity for Abak to begin a new chapter of inclusive leadership that reflects both experience and the growing aspirations of its youthful population.
