Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has resigned from his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
His resignation, conveyed in a letter dated March 26, 2026, was addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
In the letter, Adelabu expressed appreciation to the president for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in office as a privilege.
“I write with profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as Honourable Minister of Power, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.
He thanked the president for the confidence reposed in him and noted that serving under the administration provided him the chance to contribute to reforms in the power sector in line with the government’s agenda.
Adelabu explained that his decision to step down was driven by his intention to fully commit to his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
“My decision to resign is to enable me fully pursue my aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State and to dedicate my time and resources to that endeavour,” he added.
He concluded by conveying his respect and appreciation to the president as he exits the cabinet.
Adelabu is expected to intensify consultations and political activities ahead of the next governorship race in Oyo State.
