Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, have arrested a woman identified as Fatima Muhammed for allegedly mutilating the naira. The arrest was made on Tuesday, April 7, 2025, following a viral video that surfaced on TikTok showing the suspect using a N500 note to wipe mucus from her nose. EFCC operatives traced the video and swiftly apprehended Fatima in the Maiduguri metropolis area. She is currently being held at the commission’s detention facility in Maiduguri while investigations continue. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
