Nigerian DJs Bans Burna Boy’s Music After Alleged Physical Clash with DJ Tunez at Lagos Afrobeats Event

The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has placed a temporary ban on all music by Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy following a reported physical altercation between the singer and popular disc jockey, DJ Tunez.

The incident happened on Monday night at Obi’s House, one of Lagos’ most popular weekly Afrobeats gatherings. According to eyewitness accounts, a heated argument between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez quickly turned physical, with members of the singer’s entourage allegedly joining the fray before bystanders intervened to calm the situation. While the exact trigger of the dispute remains unclear, social media has been buzzing with speculation that it may be tied to long-standing industry tensions, especially given DJ Tunez’s close professional ties with Wizkid – a frequent point of comparison with Burna Boy among fans. In a strongly worded statement posted on Instagram, the NDJ condemned any form of hostility and discrimination within the entertainment industry while calling for unity among its members. The association stressed that no one is born with hatred, adding: “People simply learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love – since love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” The statement further emphasised the NDJ’s core principle: “ALL DJs are EQUAL.” It declared that the association stands firmly against any form of discrimination based on caste, creed, religion, gender or background, whether from within or outside the DJ community. “Burna Boy Music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice,” the NDJ announced. “Our team will carry out a proper investigation on the incident that happened to one of our own, DJ Tunez.” The ban is expected to affect playlists across the NDJ’s extensive network both in Nigeria and in the diaspora pending the outcome of the investigation. *ReportNaija will keep you updated on developments as the NDJ concludes its probe and any further decisions are made.*
