“I’m not a Ghanaian” – Nana Otedola sets record straight

In a quiet, personal moment shared with her daughter, Nana Otedola, wife of billionaire Femi Otedola, has gently set the record straight about where she comes from.

Speaking to her pregnant daughter Temi, Nana addressed the lingering questions many have had over the years about her background.

“To clear the room for everybody, I’m an Egba woman, and that’s the part I’ll gladly claim as a Nigerian. I am not a Ghanaian; my roots are in Abeokuta,” she said

Born in Kaduna State, where she spent much of her early life nearly two decades Nana explained that while that northern city shaped part of her story, her ancestral home lies in Abeokuta, Ogun State, among the Egba people of Yoruba land.

The conversation, which surfaced online recently, carries the easy warmth of a mother talking to her child at a significant time in their lives. With Temi expecting her first baby, the exchange feels less like a public statement and more like a passing on of clarity and belonging.

Nana, married to businessman Femi Otedola, is mother to Florence (better known as DJ Cuppy) and Temi. The family has always kept a relatively open presence in public life, but this felt more intimate a simple correction of assumptions that had followed her for years, influenced perhaps by her name and the different places she has called home.

In her words, there was no drama, just a calm pride in claiming her Egba heritage.
